This artificial lake was built by the then mayor of bagmati municipality bharat kumar thapa during his tenure.Since it was built during his tenure this lake is also called bharat lake.This lake was built for the purpose of fish farming.That is why this lake is called bagmati fish pond.Until the construction of the lower lake is completed boats are operated in the upper lake.After that fish farming will start the construction of the lake is completed.It can be estimated that more then 840 million rupees has been spent on the construction of this lake to date.Some of the gravel excavated during the construction of the lake has been piled in two places north and west side of the lake.
