After worshipping the shiva mahadeva of nunthar they carry the same holy water of the bagmati river and worship it again at the tuteshwor mahadeva temple in sarlahi district. Then it is customary to take the water of the holy bagmati river to the kansghat mahadeva temple in bara district and worship there. Finally bolbam pilgrims go to the pashupati mahadeva temple in shivanagar another religious site in this district to worship and complete their bolbam pilgrimage.Since the beginning of the history the nunther area has considered a religious place. There is a folk tale about why this area become a religious or sacred place.Local public narratives about this area are as follows. In the golden age lord shiva and goddess parvati began to roam the earth in the form of deer. While roaming the earth in this way they found it appropriate to settle in that nunthar area due to its good grazing land, cool climate and source of drinking water. After that they settled there after seeing a good place to live. They would stay in that nunthar area all night and during the day would go to graze in the open pastures just above that area.It is estimated that shiva and parvati in the form of deer stayed in that area for many years.Since they used to stay in that nunthar area for many years and go go to the pasture to graze it has been found that the locals called the the place where deer graze as a jarayotar. In nepal deer is called jarayo and tar means pasture or the land is called jarayotar in nepali. It is said that lord shiva mahadeva and goddess parvati lived in that area for many years in the guise of deer.Lord shiva and goddess parvati used to go to the pasture in this area for daily walks. Thus one day lord shiva mahadeva and giddess parvati were grazing in the pasture when shiva mahadeva disappeared from there. Then parvati became disappointed. Therefore parvati decided to built a shivalinga so that shiva mahadeva could have visit.Goddess parvati brought sand from the bagmati river which flows nearby and built a shivalinga at that place. Then goddess parvati performef penance for months by offering the holy water of the bagmati river to that shivalinga every day to get visit of shiva mahadeva. Thus after parvati had been performing penance at this place for months the invisible shiva mahadeva suddenly appeared in front of goddess parvati. When shiva mahadeva appeared in front of goddess parvati he saw that goddess parvati had performed server penance for shiva mahadeva. Then shiva mahadeva was pleased with goddess parvati’s server penance. Then shiva mahadeva gave a great boon to goddess parvati and all the devotees who came to visit shiva mahadeva at this place. It is said that when shiva had given a boon to the devotees who come to visit lord shiva in that area and returned after visiting shiva mahadeva this place has become holy.It is also said whoever comes to this area and worships the shivalinga with devotion he has given a boon that his every wish will be fulfilled.
There is another reliable folk tale here where salty water comes out of the limestone. It is believed that bathing in the water that comes out of that limestone cures various skin diseases.Salty water comes out of the limestone of the mountain in that place and the locals used to take their animals to that area for grazing. The animals used to graze around in that area all day and when they returned home in the evening they would lick the salty water that came out of the limestone hence the locals called that area nunthar. The nepali word “nunilo”is called “salty”in english and it is said that the name “nunthar” was derived from the salt water that came out of the limestone and gradually fell.It is aldo found that the locals call this religious and tourist area gopalkoti.Devotees flock to the nunthar area because all the wishes of the devotees are fulfilled when they visit shiva mahadeva. This area became known as a religious area due to the presence of salty water springs in this area and the abode of lord shiva mahadeva in nunthar. This area bordering four districts duch as rautahat, sarlahi, sindhuli, makawanpur etc.is a religious and tourist area. Not only in rautahat district but also in nepal and india including parsa, bara, makawanpur, sarlahi, sindhuli, mahottari, siraha, dhanusha districts thousands of devotees used to come to visit lord shiva mahadeva.in that holy month of july thousands of devotees visit shiva mahadeva in the nunthar area.
